The 911 really put Porsche on the map and the most legendary variant of the model was the 930 Turbo.
Implementing induction technology developed on the racetrack, Porsche created the 911 Turbo or, as it was known internally, the 930. The first U.S. models were imported in 1976 and the car’s quickly made a name for themselves among enthusiasts. A wider track, lower stance, an aggressive wing, and of course turbocharged power are among the features that made the car so legendary. However, no car comes without its downfalls and the early 911 Turbo models were no exception.
The smaller 3.0-liter engine was prone to turbo lag and the car had understeer issues. Later models refined the car with a 3.3-liter engine and the addition of an intercooler which changed not only the characteristics of the turbocharger and how it worked but also the car’s handling characteristics. These changes only added to the hype surrounding one of Porsche's most popular cars. Unfortunately, the 911 Turbo model was replaced in 1990 and 1989 marked the car’s last year.
