A rare Canadian-spec 944 Turbo Cup car with original Rothmans livery and strong race history heads to auction with full documentation.
One of Porsche’s most iconic customer race cars from the 1980s, a 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo Cup with a winning Canadian motorsport pedigree, is set to cross the block at Broad Arrow’s Air|Water Auction in 2025. Estimated to fetch between $150,000 and $170,000, the lightweight factory-built racer represents a rare opportunity to own a well-documented piece of Porsche’s single-make racing history.

Chassis No. WP0ZZZ95ZJN165062 is one of just 38 Turbo Cup cars delivered to Canada, where it was fielded in the Rothmans Porsche Challenge—Canada’s answer to Europe’s popular Carrera Cup. Originally campaigned by Canadian Pragmatics Ltd. in 1988, the car reached its competitive peak under driver Bill Adam, who piloted it to two race wins and ten podiums over the 1989 and 1990 seasons. Adam’s consistent performance secured back-to-back third-place finishes in the championship standings.

Still finished in its original Rothmans Toshiba-ISG livery from the 1990 season, the car remains unrepainted—a rare trait among retired race cars. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four producing 250 horsepower, connected to a five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. The factory-equipped magnesium wheels, fiberglass hood, Matter roll cage, and stripped-down cabin underscore the car’s purpose-built nature.

Since 2020, over $60,000 has been invested in a full mechanical restoration, including a rebuilt engine, refreshed suspension, brake system overhaul, and turbocharger refinements. The Porsche also retains several original parts for potential street use, including a removable street exhaust and license plate mounts. With just 24,398 kilometers on the odometer and a clean Texas title, it’s one of the most original examples in existence.

For collectors and vintage racers alike, this 944 Turbo Cup offers an unparalleled blend of competition heritage, factory provenance, and road-legal status—a combination as rare as the car itself.
