A rare GTS-spec 1974 DeTomaso Longchamp with a 351ci V8, five-speed manual transmission, and recent refurbishment heads to auction.
A rare and highly desirable 1974 DeTomaso Longchamp GTS-Spec, one of only approximately 412 examples produced between 1972 and 1989, is set to make waves on Bring A Trailer. Originally sold in Spain, this example was later owned by Belgian race car driver Claude Dubois, who had it upgraded to GTS specification at the DeTomaso factory in 1981. With a storied history that spans the globe, this Longchamp is now offered for auction with extensive documentation and a clean Michigan title.
Powered by a 351ci Cleveland V8 engine, this Longchamp has undergone several stages of refurbishment, including a rebuild of the engine in 2009 and the installation of a five-speed manual transmission in 2021. Recent work includes the replacement of the oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, and thermostat, as well as the installation of a Holley automatic choke and electronic fan controller. This 351ci V8 produces ample power, further enhanced by the hydraulic lifters, rocker arms, and H-beam connecting rods fitted during the rebuild.
The car is finished in a striking metallic gray, with flared wheel arches, dual side-view mirrors, and black-finished front and rear bumperettes. Notably, the hood, decklid, and quarter panels were refinished in 2022, maintaining its immaculate appearance. The Longchamp sits on 15-inch Campagnolo wheels mounted with Hankook Kinergy tires installed in 2022, offering a perfect blend of classic style and modern grip.
Inside, the cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench, all trimmed in black leather. The front seats were reupholstered in 2022, and the dashboard was re-dyed in 2023.
