Low-mileage final-year Suburban 1500 offers a rare glimpse at a time-capsule SUV from the end of an iconic generation.
The final year of the seventh-generation GMC Suburban is being marked in style with the offering of a remarkably preserved 1991 GMC Suburban 1500 SLE, showing just 30,941 original miles. This well-documented example, part of The Carolina Collection, is heading to auction in near-original condition and offers enthusiasts a rare chance to own one of the last of the classic square-body Suburbans.

Produced from 1973 through 1991, the seventh generation of Chevrolet and GMC Suburbans evolved from utilitarian workhorses into versatile family haulers. The 1991 model marked the end of an era before a total redesign in 1992, and this 1500 SLE example represents that legacy with a blend of rugged durability and period luxury.

Finished in factory Deluxe two-tone Onyx Black and Fire Red (2YH), the Suburban features a Garnet Custom Cloth interior with reclining high-back front bucket seats, simulated wood trim, and eight-passenger seating. A removable third-row seat adds flexibility to its spacious cabin, making it ideal for both road trips and hauling gear.

Under the hood is a 5.7-liter V8 mated to a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, offering both everyday drivability and towing strength. The vehicle rides on original aluminum wheels with Cooper Discoverer R/T tires and includes factory amenities such as front and rear air conditioning, an AM/FM/Cassette stereo, tilt wheel, and power windows and locks.

This Suburban’s CARFAX history confirms past ownership in Michigan, New Hampshire, and Texas prior to entering The Carolina Collection in 2016. Notably, the consignor reports a top-end engine rebuild in 2021, along with a new heater core, air conditioning service, and general maintenance—all supporting the vehicle’s well-preserved status.
With an exceptionally clean undercarriage and original equipment including manuals, service records, and factory third-row floor mat, this Suburban is positioned as one of the finest survivors of its kind.

Collectors looking for a classic SUV that combines nostalgia with usability will find this 1991 Suburban to be a standout in any collection. See it here.
