Rare BMW 507 Series II Roadster with original features and concours-level restoration heads to auction with a $2.1–$2.3M estimate.
The 1958 BMW 507 Series II Roadster, an icon of 1950s automotive design and exclusivity, will cross the block at The Amelia Auction 2025 with an estimated value between $2,100,000 and $2,300,000. This stunning Series II example, chassis 70110, is one of just 253 units ever produced and boasts a rich history, factory authentication, and an exceptional concours-quality restoration.
Designed by Albrecht Graf von Goertz under the vision of influential U.S. importer Max Hoffman, the BMW 507 debuted as BMW’s halo sports car, targeting affluent enthusiasts. With its all-aluminum 3.2-liter V8 engine producing 148 horsepower and paired with a 4-speed manual ZF transmission, the 507 was both a marvel of engineering and an aesthetic masterpiece. However, its nearly $10,000 price tag limited production, resulting in the car’s rarity and its status as a collector’s dream today.
Chassis 70110 stands out even among its limited peers. Originally finished in Silver Metallic, it was displayed at the BMW Pavilion in Munich before delivery to its first owner in Venezuela, businessman Gustavo Zingg. It is one of only 21 examples built in this elegant color and retains its factory-installed removable hardtop and rare date-coded Rudge knock-off wheels. After returning to Germany in 1960, the car underwent a meticulous restoration between 2006 and 2008, earning an impressive 900 out of 1,000 points during its BMW Classic evaluation.
The car’s presentation is nothing short of spectacular. The Silver Metallic bodywork, accented by flawless brightwork, contrasts beautifully with the rich red leather interior. The cabin exudes period-correct luxury, complete with jewel-like instruments, an ivory-white steering wheel, and a Becker Europa radio. A hallmark of its originality is the inclusion of the factory Hazet toolset, housed in the engine bay.
BMW’s "Black Book" expertise report confirms its authenticity, including the M507/1 alloy V8 engine, a proper replacement unit with updated 11-bolt cylinder heads, and the correct four-speed gearbox. Coupled with front disc brakes and its prestigious Category 1 evaluation, chassis 70110 represents one of the finest surviving examples of the 507 legacy.
Previously showcased at prestigious events such as The Quail Motorsports Gathering, this BMW 507 is eligible for top concours d’elegance events and elite driving tours worldwide. With its rich history, exceptional provenance, and flawless restoration, it presents an unparalleled opportunity for collectors to acquire one of BMW's most timeless and celebrated roadsters.
The Amelia Auction 2025 offers discerning buyers a chance to own a piece of automotive history—an icon whose elegance, rarity, and craftsmanship continue to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike.
