One of the last Kansas City-built 1970 Chevelle LS6 coupes, equipped with its original drivetrain, is up for auction today.
A rare and highly coveted 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 is crossing the auction block today, offering collectors a chance to acquire one of the most iconic muscle cars ever built. Finished in Fathom Blue Metallic over a black vinyl interior, this Chevelle is believed to retain its original LS6 drivetrain, making it a standout among surviving examples.

The 1970 Chevelle marked a peak in American muscle car history, with the SS 454 option introducing Chevrolet’s legendary LS6 engine—a 454 cubic-inch V8 rated at 450 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. Featuring a Holley four-barrel carburetor, solid lifters, forged internals, and a robust 11.25:1 compression ratio, the LS6 was built for sheer performance. Period tests recorded quarter-mile times as quick as 13.44 seconds, establishing the LS6 as a dominant force on the streets and strips.

This particular car, assembled at the Kansas City plant, carries a chassis number suggesting it was built during the final days of 1970 production. Documentation includes a factory build sheet verifying options such as the Z15 SS 454 package, ZL2 cowl induction hood, F41 special performance suspension, and G80 positraction rear axle with a 3.31 gear ratio.

Other factory features include Strato bucket seats, a center console, round gauge cluster with a 6,500-rpm redline tachometer, power steering, and power front disc brakes. While the car retains much of its originality, noted imperfections include an older repaint with minor scratches, a crack in the steering wheel, and light corrosion on valve covers and trunk surfaces.

Given its remarkable provenance, factory documentation, and believed-original drivetrain, this LS6 Chevelle represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of American muscle car history. Bidding concludes today. See it here.
