Finished in Graphite Gray accented with the perfect balance of black and chrome, this Road Runner is riding on a set of brightly polished wheels. Under the hood is a specially built 383-cid V8 engine fitted with a performance cam and topped with a Holley 750 carburetor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission leading into a 3.90:1 geared posi-traction rear end. Other performance upgrades include a set of ceramic coated headers, a new high-torque starter, power disc brakes complete with a line lock, and power steering.
Moving inside, the show car looks/muscle car performance theme is continued with a dash straight out of the muscle car era fitted with a Dakota Digital gauge cluster featuring a bright white background and red backlight. Black leather upholstery covered bench seating and an original style steering wheel sporting the iconic Road Runner bird logo further add to the original muscle car feel. Although, a Hurst shifter accurately alludes to the cars higher performance capabilities.
Between the Road Runner name and the iconic “beep, beep” sound of the horn, it is said that Plymouth invested $60,000 in royalties and horn development in the model that would go on to be the 1969 Motor Trend Car of the Year.
