While it is unknown exactly how many actual pace cars and genuine replicas were made for the 1967 model year, what is known is that it was very rare.
The number of 1967 Camaro Pace Cars used in the race and surrounding events is estimated to be somewhere around 100 cars. As far as replicas are concerned, there is no official number and trying to figure it out would send you down a never-ending rabbit hole. One official number that is pretty much set in stone is a set of cars that are referred to as “Brass Hat” Pace Cars. These cars were produced for Chevrolet corporate VIP use and there were about 40 cars. However, of those 40 cars, only about 25 were 0-1 Camaro pace car replicas. That makes this car an incredibly rare piece of Camaro Indy Pace Car history.
Not only were these cars rare, they were also absolutely stunning. Features included a special white finish with a unique blue nose stripe and a matching decal package that proudly displayed its heritage. Inside, the special theme continued with a two-tone blue and white upholstery. This particular example was built with a 295-horsepower L48 350-cid engine mated to a Powerglide automatic transmission. Other options included a 12-bolt rear end, power disc brakes, power steering, and a power convertible top.
In addition to being a rare car with a long list of highly desirable factory options this 1967 Camaro Pace Car has undergone a recent concours level restoration. Ron Braun and his expert team at RBR Restoration in Medford NY. performed the rotisserie restoration in 2020, documenting the entire process with pictures.
