Historic 1966 Lola T90 Ford Indy Car driven by Jackie Stewart in the Indy 500 and Fuji 200 to be auctioned at Mecum.

The 1966 Lola T90 Ford Indy Car, a racing icon driven by three-time Formula 1 World Champion Jackie Stewart, will be auctioned as Lot S152 at the Mecum Kissimmee 2025 event on Saturday, January 18th. This remarkable car, chassis SL90/2, is a centerpiece of motorsport history, marking significant performances at both the 1966 Indianapolis 500 and the Fuji 200 in Japan.

Chassis SL90/2 was one of only three Lola T90 cars built, all delivered to the John Mecom Racing Team. Stewart piloted this car to a 6th-place finish at the 1966 Indy 500, narrowly missing a victory after a mechanical issue sidelined him late in the race. Later that year, he claimed a historic 1st-place win at the Fuji 200 in Japan, solidifying the car's international acclaim.

At the heart of this Lola T90 lies a 256 CI Ford DOHC 4-cam V-8, paired with a fuel injection system that delivers the raw power needed for high-speed oval and road racing. The car features an independent wishbone suspension and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes, showcasing the advanced engineering that defined the mid-1960s IndyCar era.

Finished in a striking white and red No. 43 Bowes Seal Fast livery, this Lola is a visual masterpiece. It comes with extensive documentation, including:

  • A binder of race history and USAC technical sheets.
  • A documented background report.
  • Historic correspondence.
  • Memorabilia from its era, such as the 1966 Indianapolis 500 Official Program, a 1966 Racing Annual, and a June 1966 issue of "Competition Press and Autoweek."

Additionally, the package includes an external starter and the nose cone and front section from its sister car, chassis SL90/3, driven to victory at the 1966 Indy 500 by Graham Hill.

This Lola is eligible for Vintage Indy and SVRA vintage racing events, providing an opportunity for collectors to relive its glory days on the track. With its storied history and connection to legendary drivers like Jackie Stewart, the car is also a coveted showpiece for motorsport enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The Lola T90 was designed for dominance, and all three chassis achieved significant victories during their careers. With the backing of John Mecom Racing and preparation by legendary mechanics George Bignotti and Jimmy Dilamarter, the T90 left an indelible mark on IndyCar racing history.

For collectors and racing fans, chassis SL90/2 offers a chance to own a piece of motorsport heritage—a car that exemplifies the innovation, drama, and glory of the golden age of racing.

Bidding for this exceptional machine takes place at Mecum Kissimmee 2025, promising a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure a truly historic vehicle.
