Built and restored by Frank Buonanno, founder of Black Horse Garage and a protégé of Luigi Chinetti, this car is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and engineering, designed for endurance racing and speed.
This racer has an illustrious history, participating in the Great Race—a cross-country rally formerly known as the Great American Race—in 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2015. It features the original 1915 Hudson engine block, cylinder jug, and carburetor, paired with a host of modern enhancements for improved reliability and performance. A custom billet crankshaft, Egge pistons with a 7:1 compression ratio, and a reengineered oil lubrication system bring the engine into the modern era while maintaining its vintage charm.
Power is transmitted via a 1950s-era GM 3-speed transmission with mechanical overdrive, allowing the Hudson to cruise comfortably at speeds over 70 mph. The original frame, steering box, and differential have been retained, while custom upgrades like Jaguar XK120 front brakes and Ferrari sway bars improve handling and safety.
The racer’s stunning boattail body was handcrafted by The Panel Shop, featuring a wooden frame and custom aluminum skin designed to emulate the era’s Indianapolis race cars. The original 1915 grille shell and radiator combo, along with period-correct headlights, blend seamlessly with modern instrumentation for a unique mix of history and usability.
