A 2023 C8 Corvette Stingray dominates a Hemi Charger and tuned Audi SQ5 in thrilling 1/8-mile drag races at Barona Dragstrip.
The C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray continues to uphold its reputation as a "supercar killer," proving itself on the dragstrip against formidable opponents. This time, a crimson 2023 Corvette Stingray took on a 2020 Dodge Charger 5.7 Hemi V8 and a tuned 2018 Audi SQ5 at the Barona Dragstrip in Lakeside, California, in a series of high-energy 1/8-mile battles.
In the first face-off, the Stingray squared up against the Mopar muscle of the Hemi Charger. Despite the Charger’s powerful V8 engine, the Corvette quickly established its dominance. The first run was a blowout, with the Stingray clocking an impressive 7.79 seconds compared to the Charger’s 8.86 seconds. A rematch gave the Charger a brief lead, but the C8’s mid-engine balance and precision ultimately reclaimed victory after a decisive gear change.
Next, the Stingray faced a more unconventional rival: a 2018 Audi SQ5 equipped with an E50 tune. This matchup was far tighter, with the Audi holding its ground for much of the first race. However, the Stingray’s superior power and handling secured the win in the final stretch, finishing in 7.96 seconds versus the SQ5’s 8.24 seconds. A second race yielded a similar outcome, with the Corvette once again pulling ahead with a time of 7.83 seconds to the Audi's 8.2 seconds.
These impressive showings highlight the Stingray’s versatility as both a daily driver and a track-ready contender. While the higher-performance Z06, E-Ray, and upcoming ZR1 models might garner more attention for their jaw-dropping specs, the Stingray proves that even the "entry-level" C8 is a force to be reckoned with.
As enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the arrival of the 1,064-horsepower 2025 ZR1, the C8 Corvette continues to shine, consistently outperforming expectations and redefining what it means to be America’s sports car.
